The benefits of argan oil have long been known to Moroccan women but this precious product is finding a niche on exclusive world markets.

The rare argan tree grows only on the arid plains of south west Morocco where it is protected by UNESCO. Most plantations are found along the road from Marrakech to Essaouira and sometimes goats can be seen climbing the trees to feast on the olive-like fruit. At harvest time however, they are chased away so the oil remains pure for vegans.

The harvest is processed by cooperatives, ensuring eco-management, fair price and 100% natural health and beauty products. Breaking the nuts is women’s work and done by hand, a long standing tradition with profit-sharing financing their health care and education. Argan oil is praised for its role in tasty Moroccan cuisine, its anti-ageing cosmetics and medicinal properties. It provides discerning outlets with top health and beauty products.

Moroccan Argan Oil, Anti Ageing Cosmetics, Natural Beauty Products

Argan oil natural beauty products include serums, anti ageing creams and soaps rich in vitamin E, carotene and essential fatty acids. They hydrate and protect the skin, can be used in facials and body massage, even for babies, and are now promoted in spas world wide. Berber women rub argan oil on their nails, in their hair before a shampoo and mixed with lemon juice on dried or cracked lips.

The natural product is fragrance free, since cosmetic oil is extracted from non roasted nuts, and can be bought from Moroccan cooperatives, souks in Essaouira or online outlets such as arganoiltree or arganoils.

Argan Oil, Moroccan and Vegan Cuisine

Argan oil is sought by top chefs all over the world for its unique but delicate taste of roasted nuts, somewhere between hazel and sesame. Rich in polyunsaturated fatty acids, it should not be heated but drizzled on hot dishes ready to serve or salads, it is suitable for vegans.

It’s delicious on tomato and mozzarella salad, poached eggs with parmesan and crème fraiche and Berber pancakes. It can be added to tagine, couscous and soup, used as a dip for freshly baked bread or a tempting aphrodisiac spread mixed with honey and almond.

Argan is a cold first press oil with a high nutritive value and is available locally, at its best in opaque bottles.

Argan Oil Medicinal Properties, Natural Health

Argan oil essential acids regulate cholesterol levels, stimulate circulation and boost the immune system. The anti-oxidant vitamin E keeps down free radicals and the oil also claims to relieve rheumatism and help prevent cardio-vascular problems.

Morocco’s Argan oil has proved effective in reducing stretch marks, healing burns and scarred tissues and dealing with skin problems such as acne. It is the world’s rarest oil and the only one to combine most of the benefits from olive, grape seeds, avocado and almond oils.
